8765. Albert, king of the belgians whose valour and fortitude have won him impreishable renown, was born 8th april 1875 and succeeded his uncle Leopold II on the 17th december 1909. He married in october 1900 the duchess Elizabeth of the royal house of Bavaria, a worthy and constant helpmate, refusing to be separated from her gallant husband, come weal, come woe, and untiring in her efforts to ameliorate the sufferings of their sick and wounded soldiers.
